A Summer Sheltered -- By Ms. Emilie (Tiger & Wolf Leader)

In scouting, as in life with kids in general, we are used to scarcely seeing the inside of our home in the summer months. While we have been sheltered-in-place this season, the scouts of our pack found numerous fun and safe activties to do outside, whether it be in a grassy field at a local park or in their own backyards.

Our family found local parks with open grassy areas to kick, throw, and hit the ball around. My Kindergartener (soon to be first grader) learned to ride a bike months earlier than we expected. My second grader (soon-to-be third grader) started taking more responsibility, and is learning how to read recipes and bake by herself. We took hikes in some of the less travelled county parks. One of our favorite activities overall was just playing without anywhere we needed to go. Our lives had been so busy with activites lined-up all week with school, family, scouting, and sports, that my children really appreciated having "nothing to do" all day, and just hanging out as a family.

What did you do to keep your love of the great outdoors this summer?
